Blaise Louise Raspanti

Blaise Louis Raspanti, a psychologist, psychotherapist, and cosmetologist, died peacefully in his home on September 14, 2026 at the age of 74. He led a life full of adventure and whimsy and is remembered fondly for his intelligence, creativity, irrepressible spirit, and remarkable ability to read and empathize with people. He delighted in meeting new friends, trying new things, and defying expectations.

Blaise was born on February 25, 1952 in New Jersey. He was a diligent student, often the first to turn in meticulously completed homework assignments. Despite his risky handlebar bicycle riding, he was deeply protective, spiritual, and caring. He was a talented musician who could play any instrument he picked up - accordion, guitar, or saxophone, with confidence and character. Blaise held a master's degree in psychology and a master's of education in school counseling. He was a beloved child counselor in the 1970's and 1980's. Marching loudly through the halls, wearing airplane pajamas beneath his wool suit, "Mr. Raspanti" created space for kids to be seen, heard, and empowered to face their challenges.

While working for Charlotte Mecklenburg Schools, Blaise founded a private practice for after-school play-based therapy called, Theraplay. His innovative approach to therapeutic games like hot seat, would you rather, and troll-play (role play but using troll dolls to act out scenarios) were big hits at Theraplay and among the college students he later taught at Central Piedmont Community College. He hosted countless living room dance parties and front lawn laser tag tournaments. Forever young at heart, Blaise lived for boat rides, reggae festivals, and making people laugh. After retirement, he pursued his lifelong obsession with hair by becoming a cosmetologist who enjoyed helping people look and feel good about themselves.

Blaise's charm and charisma were magnetic. On his motorcycle, covered in tattoos, wearing his signature steampunk style clothing, Blaise was a champion for self-expression. He spoke his mind freely and encouraged others to do the same. He found beauty in the brokenness of trinkets and people and loved them exactly as they were. He never hesitated to tell his loved ones how proud he was of them or how much he cared for them. He will be greatly missed by so many who knew and loved him. His bold and daring choices remind us to live life to the fullest. May his resounding advice inspire us to unleash our inner children and "let the games begin!"

Blaise is preceded in death by his parents, Matthew Raspanti and Madeline Mary Bocina, and partner, Deb. Blaise is survived by his son, Ryan; his daughter, Madeline and her two children, Aliya and Levi. Blaise is also survived by his brother, Joseph; sister-in-law, Joyce; niece, Andrea and her family; nephew, Matthew; cousin, Maria and her husband, José; his stepmother, Barbara; and his first wife, Patricia. He leaves behind many second cousins, extended family members, and his pet chihuahua, Lulu.
