Dr. Charles Moss, age 83, of Kingsport, TN passed away April 24, 2026.

Dr. Moss was born in Dyersburg, TN and obtained his undergraduate and master's degrees from the University of Tennessee, Martin, before earning his Doctorate in Education and Administration from the University of Tennessee, Knoxville.

A lifelong educator and administrator, Dr. Moss spent more than three decades serving the students and faculty of UT Knoxville, initially as the University's bursar, before serving in the role of Vice President of Business and Finance for the University system until his retirement in 2001.

Dr. Moss poured his heart and soul into his work and was the "go-to" man that faculty and administrators sought out when they needed to solve unsolvable problems. Dr. Moss was a true renaissance man, a self-taught master carpenter, plumber, and electrician who built his family home with his own two hands. He was an accomplished artist, poet, and marksman and a man who loved to build, restore, and ride motorcycles, from trials bikes to vintage Harleys.

Charles is preceded in death by his father, Charles Douglass Moss; his mother, Rebecca Edwards Moss; and his brother, Randolph.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Brenda Lowery Moss, whom he loved with all his heart; along with his children, daughters, Lisa Moss Swaim, and Angie Everett and her husband, Ed; his son, Todd Douglass Moss and his wife, Sarah; his son, Jason Hester and his wife, Lindy; his son, Daniel Hester; and his grandchildren, Max, Olivia, Will, Abby, Anna Kate, Evan, and Otis.

Charles often went out of his way to help people in need. He was all heart, all the time.
