Listen to Obituary

Deborah Ann Woods, 73, of Kingsport, TN, went to be with the Lord on Sunday, November 16, 2025.

Born in Wise County, Virginia on February 9, 1952, Deborah lived a life guided by faith, grace, and a quiet, steadfast love that reached far beyond her own home.

For 57 years, she was married to her beloved husband, Curtis Woods. Their marriage was a true picture of commitment, gentle mornings, shared prayers, and a lifetime of small, steady acts of love. A faithful member of West View Church of Jesus Christ, Deborah lived her beliefs not only in words, but in the way she served others: humbly, joyfully, and with a heart fully surrendered to the Lord. She finished the race and fought the good fight.

Deborah had a tender way about her, a peaceful presence that made people feel safe the moment they stepped into her orbit. She loved to cook, feeding her family with the same warmth she fed their spirits. She loved her dogs, Bunny and Trouble, and delighted in the hummingbirds that hovered like tiny jewels outside her window. She could often be found with a book in her hand, or outside watching the birds, quietly taking in the world with gratitude. Every afternoon, around five o'clock, she and her husband would go deerlooking around The Biscuit, a small daily ritual that became one of the sweetest rhythms of their life together.

But Deborah's greatest calling was motherhood, not just to her own children, but to many. She imprinted a mother's love on siblings, nephews, nieces, grandchildren, and anyone who needed a gentle hand to guide them. She helped raise a whole family tree, her influence woven through every branch. Many will say they would not be who they are today without her quiet strength, her listening ear, and her unwavering love. Truly, she was one of a kind.

Deborah was preceded in death by her beloved son, Curtis Brian Woods; her mother, Venice Shupe; her fathers, Barney Sluss and Glen H. Shupe; her brother, Danny Sluss; her sister, Barbara Daniel; brothers-in-law David Ramey and Ike Daniel; and several aunts and uncles.

She is survived by a family who will forever cherish her memory: her loving husband, Curtis Woods; her daughter, Christy Woods (Pedro); her grandchildren, Ethan Woods (Tara), Christian Woods, Preston Thomas (Veronica), and McKayla Thomas (Jonathan); her great-grandchildren, Connor Woods, Cayson Woods, Leah Woods, Wesley Absher, Calliah Graham, Scarlett Thomas, Waylon Absher, Mariah Woods, and Goldie Thomas; her sister, Sherry Ramey; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. She also leaves behind special loved ones whose lives she touched deeply: Bronson Ramey, Josh Woods, Steven Daniel ("Peanut"), and Sharon Crumbley.

To know Deborah was to feel cared for, understood, and loved without condition. She leaves behind not only memories, but a shining example of what it means to live kindly, gently, and faithfully. Her legacy lives on in every life she helped shape.
