Elizabeth Ann Cleek, 81, of Gate City, Virginia, passed away on Tuesday, June 16, 2026, following a brief illness, just ten days shy of her 82nd birthday.
Born in Gate City, Virginia, Elizabeth grew up in the Nottingham community and was a lifelong resident of this area which she loved. She attended Hiltons Elementary School and graduated from Gate City High School. A proud Blue Devil fan, Elizabeth carried a deep love for her hometown and the people in it.
Many will remember Elizabeth's smiling face from her years at the 7-12 Market in Gate City and the Pick Quick Drive Thru in Colonial Heights. She had a way of making people feel welcomed and cared for, whether they were family, friends, customers, or neighbors. She was outgoing, kind-spirited, selfless, and had a heart that always seemed to be thinking of others.
Elizabeth took great pride in her home and yard. She was known for keeping everything immaculate, even trimming along her sidewalk with scissors to make sure it looked just right. That same care and attention showed in the way she loved her family. Her family was truly her entire world, and she poured her heart into each of them.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Omer Sidney and Emma Clark Quillen; her daughter, Brenda Cleek; and her brothers, Arley "Junior" Jones and Fred Jones.
Left to cherish her memory are her daughter, Jo-Rita Clayton; son, David Cleek, both of Kingsport; grandchildren, Tommy Johnson III and Blake Erickson; great-grandchildren, Bentley Erickson and Nora Jo Johnson; several nieces and nephews; and her beloved grand-dog, Deja, who she happily snuck table food to every chance she got.
Family and friends are invited to gather for a reception with light refreshments at Trinity Memorial Centers on Saturday, June 20, 2026, from 2:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m.
