Garland Wayne Wells

Garland Wayne Wells, 79, of Duffield, VA, went to join his beloved wife in eternal rest on Sunday, August 9, 2026.

Wayne grew up in Duffield and lived in this area his entire life, a place he was proud to call home. It was here that he grew up, built a career, raised his family, and made countless memories with the people he loved. Above all else, Wayne cherished his family and the life he was blessed to share with his wife, Nancy.

Wayne and Nancy were happily married for more than 60 years, building a beautiful life together filled with love, family, and countless memories. Together they started a family that became Wayne's greatest source of pride. He loved his children dearly and was especially proud of his grandchildren, Callie, Randall, and Layne. His family was at the heart of everything he did, and the love he gave them will continue to live on in each of them.

Wayne shared a simple, special bond with his grandson Randall, who was his little buddy, often following Papaw wherever he went and walking beside him to make sure he didn't fall. When Randall's parents would go out, Randall always wanted to stay with Papaw, while all of his grandchildren loved spending time with him and making memories together.

A hardworking and successful entrepreneur, Wayne owned and operated a painting and wallpaper business for many years. He took great pride in his work and in providing for his family. He later retired from Lowe's, leaving behind a lifetime of hard work and dedication.

Outside of work, Wayne enjoyed the simple pleasures of life. He loved spending time outdoors, especially working around the house and yard. He enjoyed hunting, watching wrestling, and perhaps most of all, sitting down with others and enjoying a good conversation. Wayne had a way of making people feel welcome, and his stories and friendly nature will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

Wayne was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Nancy Wells; his brother, David Wells; his sister, Dana Jones; and his parents, Burley and Lillian Wells.

Those left to cherish his memory include his children, Robbie Wells, Kim Cloyd and husband Mike, and Cody Wells and wife Brittany; his grandchildren, Callie, Randall, and Layne; along with extended family, friends, and many others whose lives were touched by Wayne's kindness and friendship.
