He was born to Alex Everett Blevins and Hattie Elizabeth Tucker Blevins in Norton, VA on April 21st, 1944, and was the 13th of 14 children.
He is preceded in death by his parents, 9 sisters, 4 brothers, and 1 great grandson. Gary grew up in Norton and attended Norton Elementary School, before quitting while in the 7th grade, With most of his older siblings away, he felt the need to stay home and help his family by doing odd jobs in and around town. At the age of 16, he went to work for J&M Supermarkets which began his career in the grocery industry. After getting married, he moved to Kingsport where he also worked for Farmbest Dairy in Kingsport delivering products on home delivery routes. At one point, the "milkman" really was my father. His Sunday morning route was always a favorite when stopping at his church, Holiness Chapel where Sunday School breaks became fun with treats for everyone.
He held many positions in the grocery world and was in management most of his young life for several of the area supermarkets. In 1984, he decided to open his own business in the commercial cleaning industry which he operated for over 35 years, until his retirement. He was also a member of the FOE #3141 for over 50 years. As he did in his youth, he continued helping support his remaining family until his death.
The family would like to thank Caris Hospice for their wonderful care, especially Courtney, Travis, Nik, Gina and Nikki.
