Gary Randall Copas

Gary Randall Copas (1967-2026) It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Gary, who departed this life on April 22, 2026 at Holston Valley Hospital surrounded by his family. Born on December 10, 1967 in the same hospital, Gary worked for the City of Kingsport in the water department. He fought a long and hard battle with muscular dystrophy.

Gary grew up in the Eastern Star Community of Sullivan County. He attended Miller Perry Elementary, Colonial Heights Middle and South High School where he was a member of the baseball team.

Gary is survived by wife Connie Sue (Cassell) and sons Andrew Copas (Katie), Matthew Copas, Robbie Krug (Brianna), Cody Krug, brother Bill Martin Copas (Diane) and several grand children. He was preceded in death by his father Oscar Verlin Copas, mother Gladys Florine (Shepherd), sister Candice "Candy" Renae Burleson (Gary), and brothers Larry David Copas and Ricky Lynn Copas (Vickie).

Gary was one of the most genuine people you would ever meet. He was known for his love of sports although his greatest love was for his family. He never let anything hold him back from what he set his mind to.
