Geraldine "Gerri" Lawson, 80, of Gray, TN, passed away on Thursday, January 28, 2026 in Gray, following a lengthy illness & leaving behind a legacy of dedication, life, kindness, and inspiration.
Gerri was a member of the Weldwood Old Society; from the Monacan and Cherokee tribe. Gerri loved each of them dearly and called it some of her best times. She touched many lives that she encountered, and although faced with many of her own challenges, she never gave in.
Gerri was born in Harlan, Kentucky in 1945, the youngest of seven, to Charlie and Maggie Jean (Ketron) Kirk. Like many others, she was a "Coal Miner's Daughter," but she left those dark mountains to study cosmetology and made a career in the Kingsport area for over 40 years, along with many other adventures along the way.
In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by brothers, Jasper Lewis Kirk, Charles Kirk, and Robert Neal Kirk; and sisters, Ruth Ann Kirk, Daisy Epperson Kirk, and Billie Jean Garber.
Gerri is survived by her two sons, Kasey Glen Lawson (Steven) of Gray, TN, and Andrew Osborne (Mona) of Gate City, VA; her two grandchildren, Jessica Castle (Justin) of Kingsport, TN, and Corey Osborne (Rebecca) of Kingsport, TN; as well as several nieces and nephews.
Gerri had a motto that she used on us quiet often in times of uncertainty: "If you come up to a mountain, and you can't go over it, if you can't go around it, or under it, YOU GO THROUGH IT!"
