Glenn Russell Swearingen

Glenn Russell Swearingen, 68, of Johnson City, Tennessee, passed away on Monday, July 13, 2026.

Born in Ocala, Florida, Glenn lived a life defined by service, hard work, and an unwavering love for his family. In 1979, he proudly enlisted in the United States Marine Corps, where he served as the driver of the Amtrak, or Amphibious Assault Vehicle (AAV), a role that reflected both his courage and dedication. After his time in the Marines, he continued serving his country as a member of the National Guard.

An electrician by trade, Glenn had a remarkable ability to fix just about anything. He was a natural tinkerer who enjoyed solving problems with his hands and never shied away from helping someone in need. Whether repairing a piece of equipment or offering advice, he found satisfaction in making things work again.

Glenn found joy in life's simple pleasures. He loved spending time outdoors hunting and fishing, and enjoyed conversations with friends and strangers alike. He was always ready for a trip to Pal's for a burger or for an ice-cold "Co-Cola." He also had a passion for firearms and appreciated the peace and adventure that came with the outdoors. Above all else, Glenn treasured the time he spent with his family, who were the greatest blessing of his life.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Benjamin and Edna Morgan Swearingen; his wife, Teresa Lynn Swearingen; and his son, Benjamin Swearingen.

Those left to cherish his memory include his daughters, Jessica Bowers, Bobbi Birchfield, and Melinda Campbell; his sons, Glenn "Rusty" Russell Swearingen Jr. and Randy Swearingen; his sisters, Debbie Jennings, Marrielyn Bodie, and Jerri Jackson; his brother, John Swearingen; as well as several beloved nieces, nephews, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and friends.

The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the nurses, physicians, and staff of James H. Quillen VA Medical Center, especially the teams on ICU C2 and CLC1, for the extraordinary love, compassionate care, support, and prayers they provided to Glenn and his family during his final days. Your kindness will never be forgotten.

Glenn will be laid to rest with military honors at Mountain Home National Cemetery on Friday, July 24, 2026, at 11:00 AM.
