Listen to Obituary

Gloria Jean Adams Morehead, 79, entered into the arms of her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on January 14 after a lengthy battle with cancer. She was the only child of Velma and Walter Adams. She was a former employee of Holston Valley Hospital and Eastman Chemical Company. She also helped raise multiple children throughout her life serving as more than a babysitter and more like a grandmother.

She loved the Lord and attending Blountville Church of God until her illness no longer permitted it. She took great pleasure in lifting up others and was known as a cheerful giver. She was always looking for ways to help those who were down and out.

Although she was a lifelong resident of Kingsport and loved being able to look out to see Bays Mountain, she also loved to travel and see what beauty she could find in other parts of the world. She loved the beach, the mountains, going on cruises and a trip to Europe with family and friends. Her ashes will be spread in Charleston, S.C., her favorite city. She could find beauty in the simplest of things. She loved beautiful sunsets and the turning of the leaves in autumn.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Velma and Walter Adams, her first husband, Claude Lawson, her second husband. Larry Carter, her infant great-grandson, Lucas Henry, and stepdaughter, Jamie Greer.

Left to cherish her memory are her husband, James Morehead; daughter Sharen Kestner and husband Ronnie and daughter, Regina Lawson, and her stepdaughter, Launa Morehead Taylor and husband Brett; her grandchildren Beth Henry and husband Scottie and Emily Williams; step-grandchildren, Jessica Ellison, Matthew Perry, Amber Draper, Chloe Greer, Moria Greer, and Aimee Taylor; her great-grandchildren, Kaylee and Liora; and step great-grandchildren, Matt, Jessie, Katy, Jaxxon, Corbin, Chandler, Bonnie, Paisley, Jace, Poppy, and Max. Kaylee held a special place in Jean's heart due to living next door to her the last year of her life. She loved Kaylee's singing and her loving spirit and lit up every day when Kaylee would visit.

A Celebration of Life will be held on January 24th at 1:00 p.m. at Blountville Church of God in the church fellowship hall. Pastor Eddie Robinette will be officiating. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to Jean's favorite charity, St. Jude Children's Research Hospital. Trinity Memorial Center is serving the Morehead family.
