Listen to Obituary

"Butch" Glyn Allen Conkin, age 72, of Church Hill, Tennessee, passed away on Friday, January 30, 2026.

Glyn Allen "Butch" Conkin, as he was affectionately known, was a shining light in the lives of all who had the privilege of knowing him. His life was full of love, and he and his family loved fiercely and stood by one another through every season. His passing has left a deep void in the hearts of his family, friends, and the many others whose lives he touched. He will be remembered for the way he lived his life and for the profound impact he made on those fortunate enough to know him.

Butch loved his wife, Patti, more than anything and was her devoted protector. Together, they shared many years, weathering life's ups and downs side by side, and especially enjoyed vacationing at the beach with their family. He was a loving and devoted father who spent many years coaching his daughters' basketball and softball teams.

After many years of employment at the AGC Glass Plant, Butch retired. He was certified in many trades, including electrician work, welding, and diesel mechanics. There was little he could not fix or build, and he was always willing to help anyone in need with his skills.

An avid gun collector, Butch served as President of the Holston Valley Sportsman's Club and also built and repaired firearms for friends and family. Most recently, he became a member of the Morristown Elks Lodge No. 1667 and had been involved in many other clubs and organizations throughout his life.

Among his many interests were building model cars and 3D wooden puzzles. He proudly served as President of the Dale Earnhardt Fan Club and was a devoted fan of University of Tennessee football. He also enjoyed fishing and was well known for making the best biscuits and gravy.

Butch loved giving his favorite "knuckleheads" and "punks" a hard time, whether by playing the "world's smallest violin" to "My Heart Bleeds for You" or telling his classic "brain-eating spider starving to death" joke. Yams!

Strong in his faith, Butch read the Bible daily, even up until his final day. We take comfort in knowing he is now in Heaven, worshiping our Savior and reunited with the loved ones who went before him. "I have glorified You on the earth. I have finished the work which You have given me to do." John 17:4

He was preceded in death by his parents, Argeline and Ralph Conkin; and brothers, Kyle Conkin and Coy Conkin.

Those left to cherish his memory include his wife, Patti Conkin; daughters, Kristia Conkin and Jayme Conkin; grandchildren, Chase, Aiden, Chloe, Mai'le, and Jaxan; brother, Wayne Conkin and wife Kim; sisters, Joanne Dishner and husband Rick, and Wanda Conkin Willis; special brother-in-law, JD Jones; along with many beloved nieces, nephews, cousins, and extended family.
