Henry Anthony Grindstaff, 91, moved to his eternal home on March 2, 2026. He was born and raised in the small community of Stoney Creek in Tennessee. According to him, he never even made it as far as Johnson City until he enlisted in the Army.
Henry spent the majority of his life as a maintenance mechanic, and was known to be able to fix most anything with just the contents of his pockets. He was also a gifted artisan, who could sew, paint, or build whatever you requested. He was constantly piddling, and only sat still when his body required it. He loved growing his own fruits and vegetables, and taking a daily trip to McDonald's. Though he was a man of few words, he could be reduced to mush by his grandchildren or an abandoned rooster. He was a huge fan of healthy mischief and the Tennessee Vols.
He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Betty Grindstaff, his daughter, Shtanya Peak and husband Chris, his bonus children, Jeff McMillian and wife Carlyn, Tammy Frederick and husband Tom, 3 grandsons, Konner Frederick, Brady McMillian, and Vedder Peak, and one granddaughter, Pearl Peak. He was preceded in death by his son, Anthony Grindstaff and grandson, Vivan Peak.
A memorial with military honors will be held on May 1, 2026 at Mountain Home National Cemetery. You can honor Henry by enjoying the sunshine on your porch, watching a good Western, or by wearing Tennessee orange.
