In loving memory of our Ina Velma Pennington.
Ina "Velma" Pennington, 93, of Rogersville, TN, passed away on Saturday, June 8, 2024.
Velma spent her early years at home helping with her siblings. After finishing school, she worked many places before beginning her career as a waitress. She was so good at what she did, she took second place in a Tennessee waitressing contest. Velma married, raised five children, and worked into her 80's. She would spend her final years at home in Beech Creek, Tennessee. Velma loved to cook and could make a meal out of anything. She used to say she had enough chocolate gravy to feed all of Beech Creek. Some of Velma's hobbies included crocheting, quilting, canning, fishing, playing cards, and telling stories. She was a wonderful story teller.
Velma was the matriarch of our very large family. She was dearly loved by everyone and will be sorely missed by all of us.
Velma is preceded in death by her husband, John Pennington; parents, Minophee and Hassie Crawford; her children, Theressa Russell and Jackson Pennington; her siblings, Rass, Orville, Everette, Carl, Roy, Eula, Guy, Gale, Robert, and Charles.
Left to cherish her memory are her children, John Pennington Jr, Jerry Pennington, and Gale Pennington; her brother, Roger Crawford; and many grandchildren, great grandchildren, great great grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.
A Celebration of Life will be held on July 13th, 2024 at Velma's home.
The family would like to express their appreciation of the nursing staff at Holston Valley Medical Center and the caretakers in the Intensive Care Unit.
Trinity Memorial Centers Funeral Home (423-723-8177) is honored to serve the family.
