James (Jim) Ross Anthony, 85, of Kingsport, TN passed away June 25, 2025 after a brief illness. Jim was born May 24, 1940 to James and Ruth Anthony in Kittanning, Pennsylvania.
Jim enjoyed fishing, tennis, camping, and woodworking. He was a lifelong fan of the Pittsburgh Steelers and loved wearing gold and black in support of his team. He worked as a telephone engineer for North Electric Company in Galion, Ohio where he met and married the love of his life, Alyce Chipner Anthony. They relocated to Eau Gallie, Florida in 1965 where they went on to have 2 children, Kelly and Shawn. Jim and Alyce moved their family several times over the next 50 years to follow Jim's career as a telephone engineer. While living in Tennessee, Jim and Alyce maintained a large garden with neighborhood friends and loved to enjoy the fresh vegetables they grew. Later in life while living in Raleight, Jim and Alyce loved to explore the outer banks and lighthouses and often took their children and grandchildren along. They finally retired to Kingsport, Tennessee to be close to family. Jim was a loving and supportive husband and father and a good friend to many over the years.
Jim was predeceased by his wife of 57 years, Alyce Anthony; and his father and mother, James and Ruth Anthony.
He is survived by his daughter, Kelly Pennington (Daniel); son, Shawn Anthony; grandchildren, Kelsey, Caleb (Corrie), and Luke; two brothers, Les Anthony and Bob Anthony (Kim); one sister, Linda Berkes; and many other loving family members from both the Anthony family and Chipner family.
Visitation and services will be held Tuesday, July 1, 2025 at Trinity Memorial starting at 11am. Following the service, we will go in procession to Washington County Memorial Gardens for entombment.
