James Earl Dowell

James Earl Dowell, 84, of Blountville, TN, passed away on Saturday, August 8, 2026.

James was born in St. Charles, VA, on April 16, 1942 to John Dowell and Pearl Hood. He was lovingly raised by his Mammy and Pa Hood.

James was a proud Air Force veteran. He also spent 32 years working at Eastman Chemical. James attended church at Christ Fellowship.

He is preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Lois Shelton.

Left to cherish his memory is his beloved wife of 59 years, Catherine Dowell; daughter, Kelly Moore; grandsons, Tyler and Jake Johnston; brother, Bruce Barker and his wife, Teresa; sisters Yvonne Fyock of Ohio and Connie Engler of Ohio

A committal service will be held at Mountain Home National Cemetery on Monday, August 17, 2026, at 1pm.

The family would like to thank the staff at Mountain Home VA for their wonderful care for Jim.
