James Steven "Steve" Joyner, 69, passed away peacefully at home on September 28, 2025.

Steve was born on March 19, 1956, to the late Leroy and Charlotte Joyner. He attended Gravely School and Lynn View High School. For several decades, he worked as a brick mason with Joyner Masonry until his retirement.

Steve was fun-loving and full of life, with a gift for making everyone feel welcome. He enjoyed riding his motorcycle, playing pool, listening to music, and spending time with his family and friends. Steve was the kind of person who always showed up when you needed him. Over the years, he built countless friendships-one friend remarked that he simply made friends wherever he went.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Rick Joyner and David Joyner; his nephew, Chris Joyner; and his great-niece, Emma Grace Joyner.

Steve is survived by his sisters, Carolyn Stokes, Ruth Clendenin and husband Roger, Sherry Gilliam, Teresa Thompson and husband Charlie, and Judy Gibson; and his brothers, Leroy "Butch" Joyner, Jerry Joyner and wife Donna, Tony Joyner and wife Pam, Mark Joyner and wife LaShell, Rob Joyner, and Jeff Joyner. He was an adoring uncle to thirteen nephews, twelve nieces, and dozens of great-nieces and great-nephews.

In addition, a special niece and nephew, Misty Stokes Willison and Brian Stokes, along with their children- Addyson Bradley, Blake, and Chloe Samantha Stokes- held an especially cherished place in his heart.

In honoring Steve's request, there will be no formal services. The family will celebrate Steve's life on Saturday, October 11. Guests will be received from 3:30-6:00 p.m. at The Food City Press Room, 300 Clinchfield Street, Kingsport.

At 6:30 p.m., family and friends are invited to continue honoring Steve by playing a few games of pool and sharing memories at Breaking Tradition, 235 E Market Street, Kingsport.
