Janie Jean Marshall
1948 - November 1, 2026
Janie Jean Marshall, 78, of Kingsport, Tennessee, went home to be with her Lord on Sunday, November 1, 2026, leaving behind a lifetime of cherished memories and a family who will forever hold her close in their hearts.
Born in 1948, Janie was a lifelong resident of the Kingsport area, where she built a life centered around love, family, and the simple pleasures that made each day special. She was a devoted wife, loving mother, proud grandmother, and treasured friend whose presence brought warmth and happiness to those fortunate enough to know her.
One of the greatest love stories of Janie's life began when she was just 18 years old and met a young man named Onnie. From that moment forward, the two were nearly inseparable. What began as a young romance grew into a beautiful lifetime of companionship, devotion, and unwavering love. Together, they shared 53 wonderful years of marriage, building a home filled with memories, laughter, and the kind of love that only grows stronger with time. Through life's many seasons, they remained by each other's side, a testament to the enduring bond they shared.
Janie spent 19 years working at Beaty's Shoes, where her dedication and friendly nature became part of her everyday life. Outside of work, she found happiness in the little things. She loved a good shopping trip, especially when it involved hunting for treasures at local yard sales. There was always something exciting about finding that perfect bargain or discovering something unexpected. She also enjoyed listening to music and keeping up with her favorite soap operas.
But above all else, Janie's greatest joy was her family, especially her grandchildren. Nothing made her happier than spending time with them, sharing stories, making memories, and simply enjoying their company. Her love for her family was genuine and unconditional, expressed in countless little ways that will now become some of their most treasured memories.
Janie understood that a beautiful life was not measured by grand accomplishments or material possessions, but by the love shared, the laughter enjoyed, and the memories made along the way. She found happiness in the familiar comforts of home, the excitement of a shopping trip, the sound of a favorite song, and, most importantly, the company of those she loved.
Though her family must now say goodbye, the love Janie gave so freely will never fade. It will live on in the hearts of her husband, children, grandchildren, and all who were blessed to be part of her life. Her story is one of enduring love, devotion to family, and a lifetime of moments that will be remembered with both smiles and tears.
Janie was preceded in death by her beloved parents, Buddy and Betty (Stitt) Overbey; and her brother, Lynn Overbey.
Left to cherish her precious memory are her loving husband of 53 years, Onnie Marshall; son, Ronnie Marshall; daughter, Denise Burton and husband Mike; stepson, Brandon McClain and wife Crystal; grandchildren, Andrew Burton, Matthew Burton, and Lillie Marshall; great-granddaughter, Destiny Burton; niece, Sabrina Overbey; her dear cousins, Jana Goins-Andress and Joy Fields, whom she lovingly considered her special sisters; along with a host of nieces and nephews on the Marshall side of the family.
