Jesse Oliver Mason Jr.

Jesse Oliver Mason Jr., 87, of Kingsport, TN, passed away on Friday, August 14, 2026.

Jesse was a member of Kingsport First Assembly of God Church and was a man whose faith was an important part of his life. He was never one to meet a stranger and genuinely enjoyed the simple pleasure of conversation. Whether he was visiting with friends, meeting someone new, or spending time with fellow seniors, Jesse had a way of making people feel welcome and leaving them with something to talk about.

Jesse retired after a long and dedicated career with the United States Government Census Bureau. In his retirement, he remained active in his community, regularly participating at the Senior Center and with the seniors group at the Renaissance Center. He enjoyed staying involved, meeting people, and sharing his time and stories with those around him.

Jesse had many interests that reflected his curious and adventurous nature. He was especially passionate about investing and loved talking about the subject with anyone who would listen. It was not unusual for Jesse to ask someone if they knew Jesus as their Savior and, before long, find a way to turn the conversation toward investing.

A dedicated stamp collector, Jesse amassed an incredible collection of stamps from places all around the world. He was also an avid bird watcher, a passion that took him beyond his own backyard and even to other countries in his quest to see birds in their natural habitats. He loved learning, exploring, and experiencing the world around him.

Jesse will be remembered for his genuine love of people, his willingness to strike up a conversation with anyone, his strong faith, and the many interests that made him uniquely himself. His stories, friendship, and unmistakable personality will be dearly missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him.

Jesse was preceded in death by his parents; his brothers, Justin Mason and Darrell Mason; his sister, Sylvia Dockery; and his nephews, Thomas Hawkins and Steven Mason.

He is survived by his sisters, Eileen Clay and Evelyn Mason; special friends, Elton and Jean Lufi, Jim and Nancy Burbank, and Dave and Sharon Masulka; along with several nieces, nephews, and many friends who will cherish his memory.

Family and Friends are invited to Kingsport First Assembly of God, 2213 Brandon Lane, on Saturday, August 29, 2026. Visitation will begin at 1:00 PM with Services starting at 2:00 PM.
