Jimmy Lester, age 67, of Gray, Tennessee, passed away suddenly and unexpectedly on Monday, May 18, 2026.
Born in Buchanan County, Virginia, Jimmy grew up in Big Rock and graduated from Grundy High School. Over the years, he made his home in Bristol, Tennessee, before residing in Gray. Jimmy was a retired coal miner, a hardworking entrepreneur, and a man whose hands and heart were always busy. He could build just about anything, and he had a true gardener's gift, with a green thumb that brought life and beauty to the things he cared for.
Jimmy was well loved by all who knew him. He enjoyed playing Texas hold'em and bingo, loved to travel, and found joy in the simple pleasures of life. More than anything, Jimmy will be remembered for the love he shared with his family and friends, the memories he created, and the lasting mark he leaves on the hearts of those who were blessed to know him.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Bascom and Cora Lee Lester; his sisters, Phyllis and Wanda; and his brothers, Elmer, Johnny, and Jackson.
Those left to cherish his memory include his loving wife, Linda; his son, Jim, and wife Misty; granddaughters, Brionna and Hailie; great-granddaughters, Kamara and Kaniya; sisters, Bonnie Compton, Hazel Blackburn, Dorothy Steele, and Judy Looney and husband Joe; sister-in-law, Mary Huffman and husband John; as well as many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, extended family members, and dear friends.
The family would like to extend special thanks to Mary and John Huffman, Judy and Joe Looney, Billy Watts Jr., and nephew-in-law Jake Godsey, who led Jimmy to the Lord. The family is also deeply grateful to Beacon Home Health, Princeton Rehab, and all caregivers for the excellent care Jimmy received. Their sincere appreciation is extended to all friends and family for the love, prayers, and concern shown during this difficult time.
There will be no formal service at this time. A graveside service will be announced at a later date.
Trinity Memorial Centers Funeral Home is honored to serve the family of Jimmy Lester. Online condolences may be shared with the family at www.trinitymemorialcenters.com or by calling 423-723-8177.
