Joe Albert Rhymer III, 23, of Gray, Tennessee, passed away on Sunday, March 1, 2026.
Joe was truly full of life a bright light whose laughter, humor, and contagious smile could lift anyone's spirits. He had a natural gift for making people feel welcome and valued, and he never missed an opportunity to turn an ordinary moment into one filled with joy. To know Joe was to know warmth, loyalty, and a heart always ready to help.
Following in a proud family tradition of service, Joe served as a firefighter with Hickory Tree Fire Department, working alongside his dad, Wendi, and other family members. He deeply loved serving his community and was always willing to step up for anyone in need. Helping others wasn't just something he did it was who he was.
Joe had a passion for music that shaped much of his life. He loved rock music and played in bands over the years, beginning in metal before eventually finding his groove in country. Whether on stage or just enjoying a favorite song, music was one of the many ways he expressed his vibrant spirit.
He loved the freedom of riding his motorcycle, the peace of fishing trips with his dad, and the thrill of skateboarding. He cherished time outdoors and treasured the simple, meaningful moments spent with those he loved. His loyal dog, Max, was one of his greatest companions.
Joe was a jokester at heart outgoing, always smiling, and often described as a true ray of sunshine. He would do anything he could to help anybody, never hesitating to lend a hand, share a laugh, or offer encouragement. His kindness and big heart leave a lasting mark on everyone who had the privilege of knowing him.
He is preceded in death by his grandfather and namesake, Joe Albert Rhymer Jr.; grandmother, Joan Carol Rhymer; mother, Melissa Gilmer; uncle, Richard Doughty; and step-grandmother, Carol Walker.
Left to cherish his memories are his father, Jim and wife Wendi; grandfather, Butch Walker; sisters, Ashley Rhymer, Kloey Rhymer, and Carolyn Murray; brothers, Brandon Rhymer, J.W. Rutledge and wife Azlee, and Colt Rutledge and wife Sara; close friends Stormie Martin, Cole Barnes, and Chuck Love; along with several nieces, nephews, uncles, aunts, cousins, and a large extended family of friends.
Visitation for family and friends will be held at First Church of God, 301 Georgia Avenue, Bristol, Tennessee, on March 4 from 5:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m., with the service to follow. Pastor Dwight Marlow and Mike Crosby will officiate.
Pallbearers will be Brandon Rhymer, Aaron Magnison, Colton Magnison, Cole Barnes, Chuck Love, and Jeff Martin. Honorary pallbearers will be Matt Turnmire; the Triple T Bull Riding Association Family; country music singer Andy Buckner; and Pressley Magnison.
Joe's life, though far too short, was lived with intensity, laughter, and love. His memory will continue to shine brightly in the hearts of all who knew him.
