John Patrick Scanlan Jr.

John Patrick Scanlan Jr., 44, of Kingsport, TN, passed away on Saturday, December 6, 2025.

John was a devoted father whose greatest joy in life was his children. He loved his family deeply and was cherished by countless relatives and friends who knew him for his generosity, loyalty, and genuine kindness.

A hardworking man, John would gladly give the shirt off his back to anyone in need. He was the kind of friend everyone could depend on, always willing to help. He shared a special bond with his mother and held tight to the importance of family, making sure every gathering was filled with laughter. He had a gift for making people smile and creating a good time wherever he went.

John made friends easily and kept them for life. He had a passion for electronics and loved fixing things, often tinkering with gadgets. He especially enjoyed collecting Pokémon cards. He was also a proud businessman who owned and operated three thrift stores, an accomplishment which brought him great pride.

He is preceded in death by his grandparents on both sides, Willis & Lucille Henry, and Charlie & Mary Scanlan.

Those left to cherish John's memory are his son, Gage (Kelly) Scanlan; his daughters, Courtney Compton and Sophia Grace Scanlan; his grandchildren, Lyric Rose Scanlan, Laveah Paige Scanlan, Lillyanna Faye Scanlan; his mother, Rita Robinson; his step-father, Donald Robinson; his biological father, John Scanlan, Sr.; his sister, Shawna Robinson; his brothers, Shane Robinson, Jr. and Jonathan Scanlan; as well as other extended family & friends.

A memorial service will take place at Shades of Grace in Kingsport, TN; with times TBD.
