John Wesley Wilson Jr

John Wesley "Sawman" Wilson Jr., 61, of Johnson City, TN, passed away on Monday, October 5, 2026.

Born in Delaware, John spent much of his life on the move, following wherever life happened to take him. Though he called the East Tennessee area home for much of his life, his wandering spirit carried him to different places and through plenty of experiences along the way. He spent a significant part of his life in Miami, where, as a young musician, he even won a Battle of the Bands competition.

Music was always an important part of John's life. He was a musician at heart with a particular love for rock 'n' roll. Outgoing and naturally social, John enjoyed meeting people, talking, laughing, and making friends wherever he found himself.

John was also a talented small engine mechanic, a trade that earned him the nickname "Sawman." If it had a small engine, chances were John could figure out how to get it running again. Away from his tools and music, he enjoyed fishing, raising chickens, and growing plants. He had a genuine green thumb and took pleasure in watching things grow.

John lived an unconventional life and traveled his own road. He collected stories, friendships, music, and memories along the way, and those who knew "Sawman" will remember the unmistakable personality behind the name.

John was preceded in death by his parents, John and Kathleen Wilson; sister, Linda Ann Wilson; stepdaughter, Gina Marie Chalmers; and his trusted companion and dog, Scratch.

Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Trishia; stepson, James Broseker and wife Caitlin; sister, Patricia Wilson and husband Neal Spratt; nieces, Michelle, Lee-ann, and Kimberly and husband Eddie; nephew, Johnny; good friend, Charles Byrd; and the many friends he made throughout his life.

A Celebration of John's Life will be announced at a later date.
