Joretta Dee Sutphin

Joretta Dee Sutphin, 79, of Mount Carmel, TN, went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, August 7, 2025. She was born on September 5th, 1945 in Asheville, North Carolina, to the late JC McElroy and Bennie Mae Bailey.

She loved to travel and enjoyed going on cruises where she was always the life of the party. She will always be remembered by her loving nature, beautiful smile, shining personality, and big heart that loved everyone she encountered. She attended Crossroads Methodist Church in Kingsport, Tennessee.

She was a devoted wife to the late Albert. R. Sutphin, her beloved husband of 50 years. She was also preceded in death by her son, Jimmy Dockery; her sister, Sherry Allen; her brother, Jarvis Justice; and her step-daughter, Angela Womack.

She leaves behind a family that loves her including her daughter, Sherri Mitchell and her husband Chris, who cared for her during her illness in her final years; brother, Rick Messer and wife Georjeana; sister, Sue Campbell and her husband Wayne; step-son, Albert Sutphin; grandchildren, Joni Brown, Gregory Newton, Brian Penland, Benjamin Dockery, Austin Sutphin, and Konor Brown; nine great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

A Memorial Service will be held at the Mountain Home National Cemetery, Friday September 12, 2025, at 3:00PM.
