Joseph David Church

Joseph David Church, 66, of Appalachia, Virginia, went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, August 4, 2026.

Joe was a man with a heart as big as his smile. He never met a stranger and had a remarkable gift for striking up a conversation with anyone he met. Whether he had known someone for years or had just crossed paths with them, Joe made people feel like friends. His kindness, easygoing spirit, and genuine love for others left a lasting impression on everyone fortunate enough to know him.

Joe found great joy in life's simple pleasures. He loved spending time outdoors and treasured the hours he shared working on cars alongside his son. He also enjoyed the freedom of the open road and cherished the friendships he built within his motorcycle family. Above all, Joe loved his family and friends deeply, and the memories they created together will forever remain in their hearts.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his siblings.

Those left to cherish his memory include his loving and devoted companion of twelve years, Michelle Burke of the home; the mother of his children, Gloria Mullins of Fort Blackmore, VA; his children, Christopher Church (Brittany) of the home, Joseph Ryan of the home, Leslie Mullins (Danny) of Fort Blackmore, VA, Alicia Church (Adam) of Tennessee, and Brandy Church of Big Stone Gap, VA; his beloved grandchildren, Hunter Mullins of Fort Blackmore, VA, CJ Badgett of Louisa, VA, and Kayla Moore of Big Stone Gap, VA; his special niece, Laurel Evans and husband, Tony, of FL; his dear friends, Heather Craig, Cameron (CJ) Robinson, Michael Collins, Marvin Livingston, and Allen Mullins; his motorcycle family, especially Evan (Sunshine) Whitt and Hopie Wells; and a very special friend whose love and care meant so much, Randy Franklin.

The family would also like to express their heartfelt gratitude to the members of Appalachia Fire & Rescue for their compassion, kindness, and assistance during a difficult time.
