Kenneth Wayne Miller

May 20, 1936 — July 20, 2025

With great sadness, we say goodbye to our precious father, Kenneth Wayne Miller of Kingsport, Tennessee. He passed away peacefully surrounded by family on July 20, 2025, at the age of 89. Ken had a beautiful life well lived as a husband, father, brother, and Papa/Poppy. We know his heart is at peace as he leaves this world to join the love of his life, Nita Diane Miller, whom he was married to for 61 years. She preceded his death in 2024.

Ken is survived by his son Scott McClure (Terry), his daughters, Kimberlee Martinez (Robert) and Traci Miller Moore (Greg). He also leaves seven grandchildren: Joshua McClure (Cynthia), Robert Martinez (Tameka), Brittany Kelly (Joseph), Taylor Moore (Allison), Zachary Martinez (Jennifer), Emily Cavin (Tyler), and Jackson Moore; ten great grandchildren: Makayla, Zach, Kana, Alyssa, Paisley, Celia, Faith, Lucy, Isaac, and Isaiah; and two great-great grandchildren: Grant and Myles. Ken has one sister, Carol Miller Jobe (Bill) of Tulsa, Oklahoma, and two sisters-in-law, Holly St. Clair (Tom), and Shelly Brandon (Charley). Ken was preceded in death by his parents, Fuller Lee Miller and Versa Lee Wells Miller both of Oklahoma.

Born on May 20, 1936, in Tulsa, Oklahoma, Ken grew up with a love of cars and nearly any vehicle with an engine. His many hobbies included buying, trading, and working on classic cars; Harley Davidson motorcycles and piloting his own small Cessna airplane. He and his love, Diane, always enjoyed live music and dancing together when they had the opportunity.

Ken and Diane met on a blind date in Oklahoma and married on November 15, 1963. They soon left Oklahoma to start their family and career. Ken was a Senior Process Piping Designer in Engineering. Within his profession, he was also known as a "job shopper" as he and his fellow tradesmen received bids and worked all over the country as contractors. Due to his work travels, Ken and Diane decided to settle in Kingsport, Tennessee where he was contracting with Tennessee Eastman Company. Ken wanted to provide a stable permanent home for their family. He primarily traveled home on weekends which is what led him to becoming a private pilot. Flying, which became a passion, made travelling to be with the family easier.

Ken's career took him all over the southeast and as far away as Anchorage, Alaska where he worked on the pipeline and Puerto Rico where he helped redesign a pharmaceutical plant after an explosion. In 1986, after their family was grown, Ken and Diane moved to Albany, Georgia where they established their second long term home. They returned to Kingsport in 2019.

Ken will be remembered as a soft spoken, loving, and kind family man and friend. His legacy lives on through lessons he taught us and the love he shared. We will deeply cherish his memory and the memories we made together, forever. We live to make our parents proud each day and to show others the love they always showed us.

The family will have a private Celebration of Life in Ken's honor on August 16, 2025, at 5pm in Kingsport, Tennessee. For details, please contact a family member.
