Lisa King Seay, 62, of Kingsport, passed away peacefully on February 4, 2026, surrounded by the family she spent her life providing for and protecting. Her passing followed a courageous six-week battle with a rare form of pneumonia, a fight she met with the same grit and quiet strength that defined her 62 years. A woman who lived entirely on her own terms, Lisa departed this life as she lived it: meeting a fierce challenge with determination, surrounded by love, and holding the hands of those she cherished most.
She lived a full, spirited life defined by strength, independence, laughter, and a deep love for her family and friends.
Throughout her life, she did whatever work was necessary to provide for those she loved. She worked in a factory, served as a pharmacy technician, sold real estate, owned and managed rental properties, and ultimately spent the past 15 years as a bar owner. Though the bar brought its share of stress, it also brought her joy. She loved the people, the friendships, and the sense of community it created. Being surrounded by friends, stories, and laughter was where she felt most at home.
She raised her two daughters as a single mother and did so with determination and grit. She showed them by example that they did not need to rely on anyone else to build a life. Her independence, strong will, and refusal to back down once her mind was made up were lessons she lived every day (and lessons her daughters carry with them).
She loved being with friends and believed deeply in enjoying life. Known for her stubborn streak and her ability to do things her own way, she was also famously late to nearly everything, often joking that she would probably be late to her own funeral. Those who knew her best wouldn't be surprised if she were.
She held onto the things she loved and rarely let go of anything that carried meaning. She still had her beloved 1965 Chevrolet Impala and kept pieces of the past close-something her family was reminded of while going through her belongings when they discovered coupons saved from the 1990s. Organization was never her strength, but her heart for memories always was.
Music was a constant presence in her life. She loved rock and roll most of all, along with country and alternative country, and many will remember the soundtrack of her life playing alongside laughter and conversation.
She experienced significant loss throughout her life, including the deaths of close friends at young ages, and those experiences shaped her resilience. She carried herself with strength through hardship and showed others how to keep going even when life was unfair.
She was a devoted Mimi who deeply loved her four grandchildren and cherished time spent with them. She also adored her dogs, who brought her comfort and companionship at home. She shared over two decades with her husband, a man who gifted her a second chance at life with a kidney in 2019. This Valentine's Day, they would have celebrated their 11th wedding anniversary.
Her legacy is one of strength, independence, loyalty, humor, and living life on her own terms. She leaves behind countless stories, memories, and reminders to enjoy the people around you while you can. She will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.
She was preceded in death by her father, Clyde King.
Those left to honor her life and cherish her legacy include her husband, Larry Seay; mother, Barbara King; brother, Darrell King; and her daughters, Heather Crowe (Silas) and Destiny Cookenour (Cody). Her memory lives on in her grandchildren; Tierstyn, Taelyn, Jensen, and Owen and her beloved dogs, Pepper and Punchy.
