Listen to Obituary

Marlin Jo Hammonds, 59, of Kingsport, TN, passed away on Wednesday, September 24, 2025, after a long battle with brain cancer.

Marlin was born in Scott County, Virginia, the daughter of the late Betty Jo Hammonds. She was proud of her family roots, especially her grandfather who served as a Methodist pastor in Nickelsville, VA. Faith was always a part of Marlin's life, and in her later years she found a spiritual home at Shades of Grace United Methodist Church in Kingsport.

Although life brought many challenges, Marlin was known for her kind heart, her love for others, and her testimony of faith. In the last months of her life, she faced homelessness but was embraced with compassion and friendship by the Shades of Grace community. There she found comfort, fellowship, and a place to belong. Many in the church and neighborhood grew to know her as she spent time in their doorway, always reminding others that she loved Jesus and loved everyone she met.

Marlin had a tender spirit and spent many years as a caregiver, working as a CNA and providing in-home care for those in need. She was a devoted mother and is remembered for the deep love she held for her children, including a son she lost far too soon. She enjoyed music, especially her mother's favorite band, KISS, and her favorite color was blue. She also held the unique distinction of being a Kung Fu Instructor, a fact that always surprised those who knew her.

A memorial service will be held at Shades of Grace UMC on Saturday October 4th, 10:30 am.

Trinity Memorial Centers Funeral Home (423-723-8177) is honored to serve the family. Online condolences may be shared at www.trinitymemorialcenters.com <http://www.trinitymemorialcenters.com/>.
