Michael Winkle, 67 of Kingsport, Tennessee passed away peacefully on July 14, 2026.
Born on November 8, 1958, in Fort Smith, Arkansas, Michael was the eldest son of the late James and Ernestine Winkle. He attended Sullivan Central High School and later went on to pursue a career at Eastman Chemical Company, where he worked dedicatedly for 39 1/2 years.
More commonly known as Winkle or Poppy, he had a deep love for his family, especially his two grandchildren. Known for his servant's heart and big smile, he never met a stranger and was always willing to help anyone in need. Winkle enjoyed camping, NASCAR, traveling, fishing, and searching near and far for the best tomatoes in the region.
Winkle was preceded in death by his parents, James and Ernestine Winkle, maternal grandparents Glenn & Oneida Francisco and paternal grandparents Clyde and Ella Winkle, his special aunts, Keywana Ruth(Sissy) and Anna, and his brother, Tim Winkle. Father and Mother in law Tom(Pops) and Juanita(Granny/Grando) Woods, Brother in laws Todd Woods, Les Frazier, West Moore, Sister in law Tana Frazier and nephew Dane Countiss.
Winkle's greatest joy was his family. He is survived by his devoted wife of 48 1/2 years, Tonya Winkle; his loving children, Mika Davenport and husband Josh and Andy Winkle and wife Ashley; and his cherished grandchildren, Tanner Davenport and Landree Winkle. He is also survived by his sibling, Mark "Mouse" Winkle and wife Vicki and sister-in-law Rene Winkle, as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends.
A celebration of Winkle's life will be held on Tuesday, July 21, 2026. Visitation will occur from 2:00-5:00PM with a memorial service to follow that will be led by Pastor Mackenzie Baker at Trinity Memorial Centers, located at 1221 Stewball Circle, Kingsport, Tennessee.
The family wishes to send a special thank you to the staff at Holston Valley ICU for their compassionate care and support during Winkle's final days.
