Nathaniel Shelton

Nathaniel "Clay" Shelton, 31, of Gray, Tennessee, went to be with the Lord on Thursday, November 6, 2025.

Clay was born in Johnson City, Tennessee, and attended Sullivan Central High School. He had a quiet spirit and a kind heart, the kind of person who might not say much at first, but once he got to know you, he could talk for hours. Clay had a deep love for his family and friends and was happiest when spending time with those he cared about.

He loved music and could always be found listening to his favorite songs. He enjoyed playing video games, working on cars, and relaxing with his loyal dog, Thor, who was his constant companion.

Clay was preceded in death by his mother, Victoria Shelton; grandmother, Emma Lee Shelton; grandparents, Roger and Dorothy Lowry; uncle, Joe Lowry; and cousin, Alizabeth Grace Shelton.

He is survived by his father, Wendell Shelton Jr., and stepmother, Janet Shelton; grandfather, Wendell Shelton Sr.; great-aunt, Ann Shelton; sister, Rebecca Shelton, and brother-in-law, Donnie Bennett; stepbrothers, Justin Fowler and Ben McElyea; niece, Kaylyn Grace Otey; nephew, Gavin Hunter Otey; uncle, Mike Shelton; aunt, Nikki Shelton; as well as several other aunts, uncles, cousins, and many friends - and of course, his faithful dog, Thor - all of whom will cherish his memory forever.

Family and friends are invited to Sol Shelton Cemetery, 333 Alleghany Lane, Marshall, NC 28753, on Sunday, November 9, 2025, for a graveside service at 1:00 PM.

Clay will be remembered for his gentle nature, his easy smile, and the quiet way he made life better for those who knew him. Though his time here was far too short, the love he shared will live on in the hearts of everyone who loved him.
