Nelson Albert Saltys

Nelson Albert Saltys, 78, of Johnson City, Tennessee, passed away on Thursday, July 3, 2025, surrounded by his loving family.

Born on April 1, 1947, in Cooperstown, New York, Nelson was a gift to the world from Albert and Norma Saltys. He grew up in Springfield Center, New York, where he graduated from Springfield Central School and later served his country with quiet strength in the U.S. Army. Afterward, he laid roots in his hometown, helping build houses-and communities-through his work with C. David Smith Builder. In later years he worked at Hopeton for Jack Howell.

In 1971, Nelson married his lifelong companion, Marie, and for 53 years they built a life grounded in love, laughter, and unwavering devotion. Together, they raised three daughters-Julia, Sherri, and Jenny-who were his pride, his heart, and his legacy.

Nelson was a man of nature and the seasons. He found joy in the hush of the woods, the calm of a fishing stream, and the quiet satisfaction of a thriving garden. He loved to travel, but his favorite journeys were always those that brought him home-to the arms of his grandchildren. Derek, Tyler, Logan, Isaac, Sam, and Tate brought sparkle to his eyes and purpose to his days. He adored them, completely and endlessly.

He was the kind of father who led by example, the kind of grandfather who never missed a moment, and the kind of husband who held his wife's hand through every chapter. His was a steady loving presence in the lives of those that knew him.

Nelson was preceded in death by his parents, Albert and Norma Saltys. He leaves behind his beloved wife, Marie; daughters Julia Saltys, Sherri Johnston (Brian), and Jenny Bruno (Jamie); his six treasured grandchildren; his dear sister, Beverly Yaw of Springfield Center, New York; and many nieces, nephews, and dear friends who will carry his memory with them always.

Family and friends will gather at the VA Mountain Home National Cemetery, Johnson City, Tennessee on July 14, 2025, at 11:00 AM. There will be a Celebration of Life in Springfield Center, New York held at a later date.
