Othnel Spencer Bertram

Othnel was born on July 7, 1945, in Oneida, Tennessee, to Othnel and Juanita Bertram, and grew up in Kokomo, Indiana. After graduating high school, he proudly served his country in the United States Navy from 1964 to 1970.

In 1971, Othnel married the love of his life, Linda Jeans, and together they shared 54 wonderful years of marriage. Their journey took them from Rockford, Illinois to Chicago Heights, Illinois; and from there, to Gaylord, Michigan, to Wyoming, Michigan, and eventually to Kingsport, Tennessee, which they came to call home. Along the way, Othnel pursued his education and earned his bachelor's degree from Governor's State University. He also gave of his time and talents in public service, serving on the city council in Wyoming, Michigan.

A man of many skills, Othnel loved woodworking, tackling home repairs, and building projects of all kinds. He had a gift for fixing things, both in his workshop and in the lives of those he cared for. Known for his quick wit, he was a beloved jokester who could brighten any room. Most of all, Othnel was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, who poured his love into his family, and always took joy in caring for all of his animals as well.

Othnel was preceded in death by his parents, Othnel Spencer and Juanita Ruth Bertram; and his sisters, Ruth Leger, Mary Bertram, and Betty Towe.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Linda Bertram; his son, Christopher Bertram (Lexi); his daughter, Sarah Nuckles (Kyle Davis); his honorary son, Greg Nuckles; grandchildren, Marin Taylor (Kevin), Chris Bertram, Aaron Bertram, and Norah Nuckles; and great-grandchildren, Emily Taylor and Jamie Taylor. He will also be missed by countless extended family members and friends who loved him dearly.

The family will hold a Celebration of Life at a later date to honor Othnel's memory.
