Listen to Obituary

Richard "Richie" Lee Dean Jr., 59, of Surgoinsville, TN, entered into eternal rest on Tuesday, September 23, 2025.

Richie was born in Kingsport, Tennessee, on November 4, 1965, to Richard "Dickie" Lee Dean Sr. and Wanda "Hope" Mullins. A proud graduate of Sullivan North High School, Class of 1983, Richie carried his joyful spirit and God-given talents with him throughout his life.

Richie was a faithful member of St. Matthews United Methodist Church, where he found joy in worship and fellowship. His greatest gift was music-he was a gifted singer, songwriter, and musician who could play multiple instruments. He sang with the group Secondhand Shoes, sharing his voice in countless performances that touched hearts and lifted spirits. He also loved writing poems, capturing moments and feelings with the same creativity and soul that he poured into his music.

A man of many interests, Richie had a love for photography, movies, and music of all kinds. He was happiest in good company-he never met a stranger and could turn any conversation into a connection. Richie's heart overflowed with love for people, his faith, and his pets, especially his beloved dog, Andi. His life was a reflection of his devotion to spreading the love of Jesus, most often through the songs he shared and the joy he gave.

Richie was preceded in death by his father, Richard "Dickie" Lee Dean Sr., and his grandparents, Nolan and Erma Rigsby, and Isaac and Salina Dean.

He is survived by his loving mother, Wanda "Hope" Mullins; his sister, Jacqueline "Missy" Brown and husband Steve; his stepmother, Judy Dean; his cherished dog, Andi; his aunt, Linda Davenport Matney and husband Steve; as well as numerous cousins and countless friends who will forever remember his laughter, music, and generous spirit.

A Celebration of Life will be held at St. Matthews United Methodist Church in Kingsport, Tennessee on Sunday, October 12, 2025. Exact time to be announced at a later date.
