Samuel Mark Sturgill

Samuel Mark Sturgill of Kingsport, TN was born on 10-17-1955 and died on 12-11-2025. Mark was the son of James Hicklen Sturgill and Betty Jean Baty Sturgill.

Mark is predeceased by a son, Samuel James Sturgill also of Kingsport, TN, and his former wife of 24 years, Candace Godsey Doughtery Sturgill, and a brother, James F. Sturgill (Lynn) of Tunica, MS.

Mark leaves his faithful friend, Carlie Sims until Parkinson's Disease took his life. Carlie and Sam were partners and best companions for 12 years together through good times and difficult times, close by love and friendship. He also leaves a daughter Kalista Jana Nelms (daughter of Tammy Hoffman) and a stepdaughter, Carly Dougherty (daughter of Candace Dougherty).

He also leaves his siblings: Bryan Sturgill (Jill) of Knoxville, TN; Olga Ann Pifer, Knoxville, TN; Matthew Sturgill (Laura) of Knoxville, TN; Christopher Daniel Sturgill (Diane) of Ft. Smith Arkansas and many nieces and nephews.

Mark graduated from Dobyns-Bennett High School in Kingsport, TN and was a notable football player on his high school team. He worked as a roofer and a painter in the construction business for several years. He was very disciplined with his workout routines änd was dedicated to physical fitness his whole life.

The family wishes to express thanks to Mark's special sister, Olga Ann, for her loving kindness and support for her brother over the years. Mark loved his family and he will be missed by all of his friends and family.

The family also wishes to express thanks to the Nursing Staff at Orchard View Rehab Center that provided loving care for Mark during the past two years.
