Sandra Barbara Barkus

Sandra "Sandi" Barbara Barkus (née Barrett), 79, of Kingsport, TN, went home to be with the Lord on Monday, February 9, 2026, in hospice care at the Village of Allandale Assisted Living. Sandra and her husband had recently moved to Kingsport to be closer to their daughter and son-in-law. Born February 18, 1946, to the late Robert and Margaret Barrett (Nellis) she grew up in Chicago, Illinois where she graduated from St. Augustine High School.

She married her sweetheart, Wayne A. Barkus, on September 2, 1967. They shared 58 years of marriage and raised their family in Bolingbrook, IL. They later resided in Joliet, Illinois for the last 20 years before moving to Kingsport.

Sandra was a firecracker who filled a room with laughter and dancing. She lived openly and with heart. That spirit is what her family will always hold close. She loved spending time with her family, her friends, and gathering people around a table. She enjoyed gardening and prepared floral arrangements for church regularly to help the members feel welcome. Her faith guided her life, and she gave her time freely. She and Wayne were active members of Victory City Church in Joliet, IL. Her legacy lives on in the joy she brought into the lives of those who knew her.

Sandra is survived by her husband, Wayne A. Barkus; son, Wayne E. Barkus (Claudia); daughter, Cheri Zaras (Cary); and three granddaughters Faith, Aubree and Bella.

The family wishes to thank all the staff at Village of Allendale, Amedisys Home Health Care and caregiver Amanda for their loving care of Sandra.
