In Loving Memory of Trudy Laughlin Lewis

Trudy Laughlin Lewis, a beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and friend, passed away peacefully on November 4, 2026 at Baysmount House, Asbury Place, Kingsport, TN at the age of 81.

Born on July 5, 1945, Trudy was the cherished daughter of Theo R. Laughlin and Dorothy (Davis) Laughlin. She attended Southern Illinois University in Carbondale, where she formed deep, lifelong friendships that she faithfully maintained throughout her entire life.

On May 16, 1967, she was united in marriage to Robert Harold "Bob" Lewis of Lawrenceville, IL. Trudy and Bob were blessed with a growing family, welcoming their daughter Andrea in 1967 and their son Matt in 1969. Ten years later, their family was joyfully completed with the birth of their daughter Elizabeth. Throughout their marriage, Trudy and Bob resided in several communities, making lasting memories and lifelong friends in Evansville, IN; Jasper, IN; McAllen, TX; and Mt. Carmel, IL, before eventually making their permanent home in Effingham, IL.

Everywhere she lived, Trudy was known for her outgoing, social nature and her unique ability to bring people together. She worked in the office at Family Care Associates for 17 years. She was the proud "Queen Bee" of the Effingham Red Hat Club, where her warm hospitality, vibrant spirit, and love for fun shone brightly. No matter where life took her, she always made sure distance never stood in the way of a cherished friendship.

Trudy is survived by her loving children, Matt Lewis and his wife Jean, and Liz Bennett and her husband Anthony. She leaves behind her brother, Brad Laughlin and his wife Lora, as well as her sister-in-law, Mary Husek and her husband Bill. Her memory will be treasured by her grandchildren, Domonique Baker and her husband Terron, Nicholas Fischer and his wife Emmalie, Alexis Brown and her husband Jonathon, Colin Fischer, Jessica Lewis, and Evie and Brendan Bennett; her great-grandchildren, Bradon and Joelynn Baker, Evangeline, Haley and Adaline Brown, and George and Edgar Fischer; as well as several beloved nieces, nephews, and extended family members.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Harold "Bob" Lewis in 2022; her mother, Dorothy (Davis) Laughlin in 1956; her father, Theo R. Laughlin in 1991; her brother Terry L. Laughlin in 2004; her stepmother, Rosie Laughlin in 2016; and her daughter, Andrea Shafer in 2021.
