Valerie Dougherty, 71, went to be with the Lord on September 26, 2025, at the Bristol Regional Medical Center, surrounded by her family.
Born Valerie Faye Barker on January 19, 1954, in Anne Arundel County, Maryland, she graduated from Southern High School and soon after moved to Bristol, Tennessee.
Valerie was a family-oriented woman who served as a pillar for her loved ones. She was a devoted daughter, wife, mother, "Mammaw," and sister. Her impact on this world lives on through those she cherished most. Valerie's wisdom, compassion, resilience, integrity, and honesty are only a few of the attributes those around her relied on. Valerie knew the Lord blessed her with these qualities, and she used them to guide and comfort others when life grew difficult. Her door was always open to anyone in need of conversation or a place to stay, day or night.
Valerie was preceded in death by her father, Comer Anderson Barker; mother, Margaret Elizabeth Barker; husband, Fred Doughtery; brothers, Ray and Ronnie; and sisters Mary, Patty, and Peggy.
She is survived by her daughter, Carmen Haga, and husband, John; grandchildren, Cole Haga, Abigail Haga, and Jacob Doughtery and wife, Summer; great-grandchildren, Kayden and Karson Doughtery; nephew, Ray Fletcher; sisters, Dottie, Linda, and Glenda; as well as many friends and extended family members.
A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
