Vernon Hoover Elam

Vernon Hoover Elam, age 91, of Russell County, Virginia, passed away on Wednesday, February 12, 2020. He was born in Lower Grassy Creek, Virginia and was a farmer most of his life. He was an avid fisherman and card player. He is preceded in death by his wife, Retha Marie Kegley Elam; Daughters, Wilma Gaye Davis, Susan Elaine Elam, Betty Carolyn Jennings, Catherine Louise Skeens, Reba Ann Cook; Grandson, Harold Monroe Elam; Brothers, George Elle Elam, Willie Elam, Charlie Elam, Ernest Elam. Survivors include his brother, Stanford Elam and wife Shirley (Castlewood, Virginia); Brother-In-Law, Junior Kegley (Nicklesville, Virginia); Sister-In-Law; Gladys Elam (Castlewood, Virginia); Sons-In-Laws, William Skeens, Charles Jennings; Several Grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews; Special great great grandson, Sebastian Salyer. A Celebration of Life will be held for Vernon on Saturday, February 15, 2020, at 4:00 P.M. at Springfield Baptist Church, 1514 Eagles Nest Road, Castlewood, Virginia 24224.
