Wanda Jean Oakes

Wanda Grindstaff Oakes, 71, of Johnson City, TN, passed away on Monday, September 28, 2026.

Wanda was a kind and loving person who had a huge heart, She was always willing to care for those who were less fortunate, and she had a special love for animals. Her compassion touched the lives of many, both human and furry.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Ora and Delores Grindstaff; her beloved daughter, Deena Jean Grindstaff; and her special fur baby, Peaches.

Those left to cherish Wanda's memory is her loving husband, Tom Oakes; her brothers, Jim Grindstaff, Don Grindstaff and wife Glenda, Mike Grindstaff, and Charlie Grindstaff and wife Gina; her sisters, Sally Grindstaff, Janet Hassen and husband Al, and Mary Betts and husband Max; along with numerous nieces, nephews, and other loved ones.

The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to all of Wanda's hospice nurses and caregivers for the kindness, compassion, and care they provided.

A private family celebration to honor Wanda's life will be held at a later date.
