William Henry Cleaveland II, 79, of Kingsport, TN, passed peacefully on Wednesday, February 25, 2026. He was born June 8th, 1946, in Columbus, Ohio to Beulah Heatherly of Buchanan, West Virginia, and adopted by Clarice and Harlan Cleaveland of Battle Creek, Michigan, who preceded him in death.
Bill, as he was known by his friends and family, is survived by his wife, Linda Cleaveland; his sons, Jon Cleaveland of Kingsport, Tennessee, Paul Cleaveland of Elizabethton, Tennessee, and Kevin Cleaveland of Climax, Michigan; and two grandchildren, Morgan Cleaveland of Kingsport and Aldwyn Cleaveland of Elizabethton.
He attended Battle Creek Central High School, where he was a proud member of the Battle Creek Central High School Band and the All American Band. Bill served honorably in the United States Army with the 25th Infantry Division in Vietnam from 1966 to 1967. Following his military service, he worked for the Calhoun County Sheriff's Department from 1968 until his retirement in 1996.
Bill enjoyed cheering on the University of Michigan football team and spending time tailgating with friends, always making room in his life for the people he loved.
Honoring his wishes, Bill was cremated. He will be interred at the Mountain Home National Cemetery in Mountain Home, Tennessee on Friday, March 20th, 2026 at 1:00 P.M.
