William Lynn Cox (Buster), 74, went home to be with the Lord on March 4, 2026, with family by his side. Buster was a loving son, brother, husband, dad, stepdad, granddad, and great granddad.
Buster was a proud American veteran, serving his time in Germany during the Vietnam Era. Buster retired from Kennametal in Johnson City after 40 years of service. He was a member of New Life Freewill Baptist Church where he helped with maintenance and mowing until his illness.
Buster was an avid TN Vol fan in all sports, and anybody that knew him knew that he bled orange. He was a loving and caring person who always had a smile on his face. Buster was one of a kind that will be deeply missed.
He was preceded in death by his mother and father, George & Elizabeth, his sister Janice Blackburn, and grandparents, aunts and uncles.
Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Rebecca (Becky) Cox; children, James D. Cox, Brian Cox (Jena), Pamela Cox (Abel), Clint Robinette (Lisa) and Amber Robinson (Billy); grandchildren, Brittany, Ashley, Kayla, Megan, Samantha, Trevor, Claire, and Joey; great-grandchildren, Riley, Dylan, Jameson, Ayden, Cayston, Elijah, Erica, Freida, Alex and Vyshun; brother and sister, Mark Cox (Lisa) and Patty Williams (Estel); mother-in-law, Frances Cash; as well as several nieces and nephews.
The Cox family would like to thank Johnson City Medical Center, Johnson City Internal Medicine, Princeton Rehab, Hillview Rehab, V.A. Hospice, Amedisys Hospice, and Dr. P with Ballad Neurosurgery for all the loving care for Buster.
Buster's wishes were to be cremated. A memorial service will be held on Sunday, March 8, 2026, at New Life Freewill Baptist Church, 2444 Rock Springs Rd, Kingsport, TN 37664. A visitation will be held from 2pm until 4pm with a service to follow at 4 pm with Rev. Hal Calhoun & Rev. Estel Williams officiating. Music will be provided by Buster's nieces, Haley Miller and Mallorie Saylor. After the service, there will be a Celebration of Life in the Fellowship Hall to further cherish his memory. If you wish to bring food, feel free to do so with our gratitude.
