A Celebration of the Life of Wilma Washington

Wilma Washington (August 13, 1930- January 11, 2026) was sunshine wrapped in a fearless spirit. She moved through life with a song in her heart and a light that lifted everyone around her. When Wilma set out on her next great adventure, she left behind a world made better, brighter, and kinder because she was in it.

Wilma always had a song to sing sometimes out loud, sometimes in the way she laughed, encouraged, and showed up for others. No matter the circumstance, she looked for the bright side of life, believing that joy and hope were choices worth making every single day.

She carried a childlike faith that shaped the way she lived. With simple, unwavering trust in the Lord, Wilma faced life with confidence, peace, and courage. Her faith freed her from fear and guided her days with gratitude, love, and grace.

Fear never held Wilma back. Anchored in faith, she met life boldly, embracing each day as a gift and trusting the Lord to lead her every step of the way.

Wilma was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Elwin Washington. She is survived by her children: Jan Pardue and husband Cecil; Barry Washington and wife Wanda; Wanda Graham and husband David; and Patsu Shoemaker and husband Kip. She also leaves behind 14 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren, and brother, Guy Wheeles, each of whom was a source of deep joy and pride.

Wilma Washington's song continues in the faith she lived, the love she gave, and the countless lives she touched. Though her voice here has grown quiet, her melody lives on in every bright moment, every brave heart, and every life shaped by trust in the Lord.

Visitation will be held on Saturday, January 17, from 10:00 to 10:30 a.m. at Southern Memorial Funeral Home, located at 3154 Highland Avenue in Montgomery, Alabama. A service celebrating her life will immediately follow.
